Louize is an award-winning, international costume designer with more than 25 years of experience designing film and high-end television productions. She specializes in creating costumes that visually express the individuality of the characters, adding a dynamic layer to the story. Louize has a reputation as a passionate and detail-oriented designer, which has afforded her the opportunity to work in an array of genres, and her flair for constructing costumes that capture each character’s persona is evident on screen. Louize’s designs span a versatile range of genres including realistic, fantastical, character-driven, elaborate, and edgy.
From this she has earned numerous awards and nominations for her stunning costumes, including 11 Danish Film Academy (“Robert”) Award nominations with two wins—one for Michael Noer’s Before the Frost (2018) and another for The Bench (2000)—and two Swedish Film Academy (Guldbagge) Award nominations with one win for Tarik Saleh’s Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury prize-winner, The Nile Hilton Incident.
Recently, her work on HBO Nordic’s crime drama series, Beforeigners, garnered a Gullruten (Norwegian TV) Award for Best Costume Design. She also designed the costumes for the Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated Kon-Tiki, directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning. Other impressive credits include Worlds Apart, directed by Niels Arden Oplev and Tobias Lindholm’s Academy Award-nominated A War.
For the English-language market, Louize collaborated with director Lone Sherfig on The Kindness of Strangers, starring Zoe Kazan, Bill Nighy, and Caleb Landry Jones, and the historic PBS Masterpiece series Hotel Portofino, starring Natascha McElhone and Anna Chancellor.
With a unique educational background from the Royal Danish school of handicrafts including degrees in both design & pattern-making and dying & textile printing, she began her design career in theatre before expanding into film and television.
Louize is a Scandic-American based in Denmark, though her work has taken her to several parts of the world.
