This Sunday, March 23, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light will begin airing weekly on PBS Masterpiece and PBS Passport. Adapted from Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall novels, the series charts Thomas Cromwell’s (Mark Rylance) rise and fall during the reign of King Henry VIII (Damian Lewis). The first season, which focused on Cromwell’s role in Henry’s politically controversial marriage to Anne Boleyn (Claire Foy), was broadcast a decade ago to widespread acclaim. The Mirror and the Light opens immediately after Anne’s execution and chronicles Cromwell’s attempts to amass more power as Henry grows increasingly erratic. The elegance and high drama of the Tudor court was captured in sumptuous detail by cinematographer Gavin Finney, BSC.
