Simon Bowles is known for his imaginative collaborations with director Neil Marshall on four films, including, Centurion, starring Michael Fassbender; Doomsday, which stars Rhona Mitra, and The Descent, for which he designed the subterranean labyrinth. His television credits include The Deep, The Reckoning and A Plot To Kill Hitler for British television stations ITV and BBC.
His recent work includes Focus Features film, Hyde Park on Hudson, directed by Roger Michell starring Bill Murray and Laura Linney. Simon recreated the splendor of 1930s Hudson Valley, upstate New York, on location in England. Most recently, Amma Assante’s Belle, starring Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, gave Simon the opportunity to create the 18th century English society milieu for the tale of a mixed-race young woman growing up in English aristocracy. The film has drawn critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival, and was singled out for its lavish production design.
A graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Simon segued from theatre into films working as art director and concept artist on films such as the Simon West directed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie, and Kevin Allen’s Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.
Simon is a member of BAFTA and vice-chairman of the British Designers Guild.
